I am fond of genealogy, which I have been practicing for more than 30 years. My father's ancestors lived mainly in Slovenia, in the south of Austria (Kärnten / Carinthia), in Germany (Saarland as well as Mittelfranken, Bavaria), and in Moselle and Meurthe-et-Moselle in France, as well as in the part of Elsass that is located close to Moselle. I also have one ancestor born in Corsica! (during the 1769 war there). My mother's ancestors lived mostly in Finistère in Bretagne (Brittany - France), with a small branch in Cantal (in Jussac) and another one in Seine-Maritime, in Dieppe (France).
The oldest record of my family name that I have found so far dates back to March 1444, in a village (called Malisana) located between Venezia and Udine in Italy, in the form "Comaz" (later transformed to Comatiz when moving to Slovenia, then Komatz, Komatič).

Record of purchase of land by Thopholus Comaz from Master Antonio the son of the late Master Pinzani of Strassoldo, in Malisana, from the hand of notary Sir Peter of Medicis, from the town of Udine, 18 March 1444.

If the country is not indicated after the name of a town or village, it means that this town or village is in France, in which case the number in parentheses indicates the French "département" (i.e. region) it belongs to.
